Only visited family who were staying there for a wedding. What were really impressed with the house, grounds and outstanding views from the garden.

The grounds are spectacular! Truly a tranquil and relaxed location, surrounded by trees and wildlife and Undisturbed by people given it’s such a hidden location. The property was beautiful, with a rustic and cottage feel and the pool was lived by everyone during our short stay! And that view from the front door, amazing.
Also very quick with responses to all enquiries and questions during our stay, the team were very kind and helpful.

Great house and garden set in an idyllic location in the Forest of Dean. The house lives up to the description in Airbnb and provides a perfect place to relax with friends or enjoy the local attractions.

Danby Lodge is an incredible place for a get away. It's such a special place set in the woodlands with everything you could want and more. We stayed as a group of 14 for a friend's 30th and enjoyed how spacious the house is. The kitchen is very well equipped and the cinema room is incredibly well stocked with dvds and cds and perfect for a rainy day. Would highly recommend and hope to go back soon.

Large lovely house with lovely views and plenty of walks around in the forest. 11 of us stayed in the house celebrating a 70th birthday and there was plenty of room. We didn’t use all rooms! Kitchen well equipped, house is very warm.
Thank you for a lovely hamper! We enjoyed our stay and hopefully will be back.

Fantastic stay at Danbury lodge to celebrate a 50th birthday with some dear friends.
Amazing property with a very well equipped kitchen and the welcome pack was really thoughtful- including wine!
The area is beautiful and we had lots of long walks and runs and sitting by the amazing fire in the evenings.
Would highly recommend- there are plenty of places to hang out and lots of bedrooms so would suit a group of friends or families.
Thank you.

We had the most amazing weekend at Danby Lodge. We booked very last minute after another Airbnb cancellation, and Zoe couldn’t have been more accommodating. Self check in was easy and the location was absolutely stunning. The house was set up perfectly for big groups. Often you find the Airbnb sleeps a large number, but the common spaces don’t reflect that. Not the case at Danby - there was a great large dining table and multiple lounge areas. Well located for beautiful walks in the Forest of Dean but equally the house is lovely enough that you might not want to leave it. Roaring fire was a great touch. So cosy in winter, but would love to see the place in summer!

Amazing place to be, works out good value for a special experience when there's a group of you. Sized well with plenty of sleeping and hosting options. An old lodge, but clean and modernised nicely where appropriate.

A perfect house for our weekend family celebration. The children emerged from the games room only to eat or sleep, leaving the adults to enjoy the roaring fire in the sitting room. Incredibly well equipped kitchen, loads of hot water for all the showers, stunning views and incredible location. Lots of space for all 10 of us plus 2 dogs.

Danby Lodge was exactly what we needed to get away from the city. Located in a secluded part of the Forest of Dean, the lodge is quiet and tranquil, perfect for a family getaway.
First up, the bedrooms are spacious and the beds extremely comfortable. The ceiling are low in the attic rooms but that's pretty much to be expected in these aged lodges. We all had ample room to store our luggage. The hidden door to the priest hole was an unusual delight.
The main staircase doesn't have any railings and the stairs to the priest hole are rather steep so anyone with mobility issues will need to bear that in mind.
The dining area and AV room were great and much used to entertain children and adults alike. There is also a desk with monitors where one can do work if one chooses and plenty of books and board games to wile away an evening or two.
The kitchen was nice and clean and the complementary hamper was very much appreciated by our party.
The grounds are spacious and immaculately kept but those with children will need to watch out as there is a pond as well as the pool and a steep drop that ends in a stone wall.
The lodge has a wonderful greenhouse and we were encouraged to take some vegetables, herbs and even chillis for our meals. Beware, the chillis are quite hot! We were lucky to have good enough weather to make use of the gas barbecue as well.
In terms of location, the lodge is very secluded and a car is mandatory to get to and fro. However, it is perfectly situated for exploring this part of the world with Mallards Pike offering a lovely setting for a gentle stroll.
Overall, we had a wonderful time there with the family and would not hesitate to recommend it to others. Our only regret is that we didn't leave ourselves a spare day to make use of the pool. Next time, perhaps.

Fantastic location and a super well run property. Hosts are accommodating without intruding on your stay and we were left well alone to enjoy a secluded country escape. We really enjoyed our long weekend in the sunshine at Danby lodge.

Danby Lodge has to be the best Airbnb that we've ever stayed at. It's incredibly beautiful, inside and out, with stunning views of the Forest of Dean. The team couldn't have been more helpful, and answered all of our (many) questions very quickly. We will definitely be returning as soon as possible - it's a truly magnificent place.

Almost tempted to write a negative review to stop anyone else booking it. Loved this house, probably the best Airbnb I’ve stayed in. It’s fantastic. Nice atmos all round really.

The photos do NOT do it justice - the Lodge is truly spectacular and totally secluded. It has everything you need, included a very well equipped kitchen (KitchenAid, blenders, 10 kinds of wine opener...) and stunning dining room to serve your home made feasts on. The BBQ is a proper Texan beast that would probably grill off a wild boar if you're into that. Several beautiful showers and (roll top!) baths. An AV room/Snug which is effectively a home cinema but far more comfortable and cozy. And then walking out of the Lodge into the Forest is something out of a fairy tale...

It was a lovely place amongst the woods. They had a good heated pool and provided us with mountain bikes to explore the trails around. The nature was serene and it was a blissful experience. The only thing that interrupted was the WiFi which stopped working on the last 2 days and the heating stopped working because everything was connected to the WiFi. Other than that everything was beautiful and peaceful.

The house is fantastic and the location and is amazingly beautiful. We had great weather and the pool was lovely. There is so much to do close by and the house is literally in the forest so the walks out the back gates are wonderful. Norman the handyman and fount of all knowledge was great, helped with any issues we questions we had and was on hand to give us the tour. Will definitely be back!

The location of Danby Lodge is stunning, set as it is, in the most beautiful forested area with some lovely walks easily accessible from any of the several gates to the grounds. The grounds themselves are extensive and beautifully maintained with plenty of room for badminton, football or frisbee games on one of the various lawns. The barbecue equipment and area were much appreciated. The various fish ponds provided lots of entertainment to the children in our party and the pool was a huge positive. Some of the paving, the pool furniture and the pool cover were a little worse for wear but in the hot weather we enjoyed, the pool was hugely appreciated and large enough for a lot of water fun with a shallow end ideal for small children.
The house itself is large, old, characterful and quirky. There was plenty of room for our large multi-generational group and the snug and home cinema equipment were brilliant. There were some negatives - a few days before arrival we were warned that there had been some water damage to one of the bedrooms which they hadn’t had time to replaster. This turned out to be considerably unsightly with an actual hole In the ceiling. It seemed that the problem had not been resolved and we experienced further water pouring through the ceiling. To be fair the manager responded quickly and a plumber was called and although he was unable to identify and resolve the issue, we didn’t experience any further water problems, although we remained anxious. The fridge/freezer leaked continuously although we were informed that a replacement was on order. The oven was complicated but instructions were available. However it took far longer than it should to cook food in the oven. In the heat we found the attic bedrooms almost unbearably hot and had to purchase fans. The overall standard of decor also did leave something to be desired and the bedroom carpets in particular need replacing.
However when all is said we had a lovely time at Danby Lodge and can recommend it as a venue for a special break in a beautiful part of the UK. The staff were all friendly and helpful and responded quickly to queries and generally did their best to ensure that we were happy.

The house is absolutely beautiful and the location is secluded with stunning views.
You can walk straight into the forest through a gate in the garden and to walk for miles.
The best parts of the house are probably the huge fire, the big comfy beds and a room hidden behind a secret bookcase.
There was also a generous welcome hamper and all the essentials were there.
The hosts were also quick to respond to questions before our trip and the check in and check-out was easy.
Thanks again for a great stay!

Fabulous house. We were two families with a total of 14 and there was plenty of space for us all. We relaxed in the house and we relaxed in the garden. There was also plenty to do; the games room, games on the lawn and the dry stone walls were excellent hiding places for an easter egg hunt! We walked in the forest, seeing deer, boar and their piglets. A lovely house to which we will return when the weather is warmer and the pool is in use.
